Food for Fuel

I’m a runner, and I view food as fuel.  Don’t get me wrong, I LUURVE food, and enjoy eating with those I love- but for me, health and wellness are all about the balance of nutrition and an active lifestyle.

I’ve been a runner all of my life, and I’ve recently become more and more serious about pounding the pavement and knocking out longer distances.  My training is supplemented by weight training, acupuncture, and yoga.  I totally believe in the benefits of a variety of physical activity and cross-training to reap maximum benefits both physically and mentally.

Supplementing my active lifestyle and passion for running and working out, I eat to live, run, and enjoy life.  For me, this means focusing on whole foods and a diet that mainly consists of fresh (local) produce, lean protein, whole grains, and healthy fats.  Naturally I have a tendency to skimp on healthy fats and yummy carbs because I LURVE fresh produce and Greek yogurt to the point of obsession- yes, I could live off of a combination of these foods all day everyday.  But…that probably wouldn’t do me too much good as an athlete and runner, so I am constantly focusing on a balanced diet containing a fueling balance of lean protein, carbs, and healthy fats.

I follow a “clean” diet that (hopefully) excludes over-processed foods and artificial ingredients- but I’m human, and of course have my vices.  I am working on excluding splenda from my diet- slowly but surely :)

I also have tried to exclude diet sodas- which has been a success minus the occasional afternoon pick-up.  I’m all about moderation and balance, so I’m not going to beat myself up too badly about these little mistakes.  Life’s too short to hang up on a can of Dr. Pepper (yum- oops!).

Being as active as I am, AND, of course being a lover of food, I tend to eat 5-6 mini meals each day.  This works for me, and I feel active, fresh, and energetic!

So- I’m joining blog-o world to live and let learn about my passion for food and running! It’s an amazing community overflowing with information and awesome people- loves it!!

Come join me, live and let learn :)
